Every hotel we recommend is chosen for its location, character, comfort, and value for money. We favour places we have stayed in ourselves or that come highly recommended by travellers we trust. We look beyond the star rating: a family-run guesthouse with the perfect breakfast terrace can beat a five-star lobby every time.
The best time to book
Hotel prices swing with the seasons. As a rule of thumb, booking 2–3 months ahead for shoulder season and 4–6 months ahead for peak season gets you the best choice of rooms. Travelling in the off-season? You can often upgrade for the price of a standard room — we will tell you exactly when those windows open in each destination.
